CONTOUR 01

Information and boil-water notices

An informational notice can communicate planned change, conservation, appearance, taste or odour context without stating an adverse health effect. A boil-water notice addresses a microbial risk and requires treated or alternative water for drinking and specified household uses.

Under current New Zealand public guidance, uses such as drinking, food preparation, brushing teeth and preparing infant formula are included during a boil-water notice. Users must still read the complete live notice for method, duration, appliances, pets and any event-specific details.

CONTOUR 02

Do-not-drink and do-not-use notices

A do-not-drink notice can involve chemicals or toxins; boiling does not make the water safe to drink. The issuing authority may permit some non-drinking uses, but a static app cannot decide which uses are allowed in a specific event.

A do-not-use notice is broader and can prohibit tap-water contact or use for every purpose, including bathing. Boiling does not solve that notice. The precise current instruction determines all permitted and prohibited activity.

CONTOUR 03

Read the whole message and the lifting notice

Before acting, confirm the affected supply, start time, notice type, current source and complete instructions. A cropped image, old screenshot or forwarded headline may omit an update.

When a notice is lifted, suppliers may give instructions for taps, connected appliances, ice makers, filters, cylinders or tanks. The issuing authority decides when the notice ends; Rillmark never reports or infers that status.
